Fisher Photography Newsletter - Sept 2010
SEPT / 2010

I´m always happy to see September roll around. The days warm up, the nights grow shorter and the wildflowers conduct their own little party. In Australia, September also brings Father´s Day. This issue is dedicated to the dads.

Have you seen the current issue of Perth Woman? I was extremely flattered to be featured in the article, "Fish out of Water". If you get a chance, grab a copy to see a group shot of a lot of fantastic fathers and pretty good water polo players, too. I´m sitting poolside in swimming gear, proof I´m a brave man.

My sister Robyn introduced me to Gomé Simfukwe. She met him at the gym where the two became friends. Born in Zambia, he came to Australia with his family to study at the Bible college. Now a business analyst at RAC, Gomé brought his daughter Zamaia to our studios in May when she was about two months old. I turned off the flash on my camera using tungsten lighting to enhance the natural light and uncommon love pouring into the room. Gomé’s family have returned to Africa and have never met Zamaia. One look at this photo will tell them all they need to know about Gomé and fatherhood.

Photographing Children

I spent a lot of time photographing my four children when they were young. I learned a few valuable lessons:

  • Talk to your kids in a natural way; don´t boss them
  • Let them have their say; bring them into the event willing participants
  • If it´s not working, leave it for another day
  • Kids are impatient; get your camera ready first
